You'll get a new list of root words and spelling words. Roots: liter log luc magn
Spelling words: Literature Illiterate Literal Monologue Epilogue Lucid Elucidate Magnify Magnate Magnificent. Remember you can get extra credit on Friday's quiz by commenting on this post with a new word based on this week's roots. We will also continue our work on sentence structures. You'll get a worksheet to complete by Thursday for HW in preparation for Friday's quiz. For workshop you should be finalizing your free write and turning that in on Friday. Since this essay and the next will both be free writes, here is a quick reminder as to what that entails:
- Topic may be anything you'd like- fiction, persuasive, narrative, review, you name it.
- Must be at least 500 words in length
- Must eliminate all linking verbs and adverbs from essay (except in dialogue)
- Must use transitions between paragraphs
- If non fiction must be thesis driven. Have a clear thesis and prove it through the paper.
Reading
We will be starting Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream this week. On Monday I'll be teaching you the difference between old, middle and modern English. Tuesday we will get some new vocab related to the play and a worksheet that will be started in class and finished for hw. (This will count as list number 3 for term two.) Then starting Wednesday we will be reading, cutting and acting out the play in class. You will still be responsible for keeping up with your free reading. You should be reading 20 pages each night. Towards the end of the term you'll have to do another approach paper on the free reading book of your choice.
To recap: In LA grammar sheet due Thursday. Spelling/grammar quiz Friday. Final of free write due Friday. In Reading vocab worksheet due Wednesday, 100 pages in your book by Friday. If you have questions post them here.
