Pg 16, 2nd paragraph: Danglars says Dantes is lucky. Is he? More importantly, what is luck? Does it exist?
Pg 17: Dantes is going to Paris to deliver a secret letter. Is it a safe way to deliver a message? What about today? Email, text… Can we safely transfer information? Why is information so important that some of it needs to be secret. Can it be more important than human life in some cases?
Chapter IV: “ I don’t think man was meant to attain happiness so easily…” Agree? Disagree? Is happiness something to “be attained” in the first place?
Pg. 33: guard informs Dantes what jail will be like ~ compare to The Bet.
Pg 40-41: Who do you feel more sorry for, Dantes’ father or his fiancé?
Stages of misery- pride, doubt, pray to men, pray to God, anger.
Agree? Disagree?
